The governments of Pakistan and India exchanged lists of prisoners held in each other's custody on July 1, 2023, at the Wagah border crossing between the two countries.

The list of Pakistani prisoners includes 308 people, while the list of Indian prisoners includes 417 people. The prisoners include both civilians and military personnel.

The exchange of prisoners is a goodwill gesture between the two countries. It is hoped that the exchange will help to improve relations between Pakistan and India.

The Pakistani list includes 266 fishermen and 42 other civilians. The Indian list includes 343 civilian prisoners and 74 fishermen.

The exchange of prisoners is part of the Agreement on Consular Access signed between Pakistan and India in 2008. The agreement requires the two countries to exchange lists of prisoners in each other's custody twice a year, on January 1 and July 1.

The exchange of prisoners is a positive step in the relationship between Pakistan and India. It is hoped that the exchange will help to build trust and understanding between the two countries, and ultimately lead to a more peaceful future.
